Manananggal a.k.a. Of Maths & Men
Of Myths & Men: Episode 7, the only podcast that Sally (the one who sells seashells down by the seashore) listens to. This week we discuss the creepiest of vampires, the Manananggal. The expert this week is Dylan.

The manananggal is a Filipino vampiric creature that feasts on the blood of unborn fetuses. They have an ability to split into two at the waist, and sprout bat-like wings to fly around. Spreading salt or garlic on the lower half when it is split will block its ability to reform together. If it cannot clean the lower half in time, the manananggal can die due to the sun. It uses a long proboscis-like tongue to reach into pregnant mothers and suck the blood from the fetus's heart. Manananggal often disguise themselves as normal humans, typically old women or midwives, in order to get close to the unborn fetuses.
Abilities
The manananggal can split in two, horizontally at the waist, and sprout bat-like wings and fly around. Well only the top half flies around, the bottom just stays where it is. It also has sharp claws and is rather durable in a fight being an undead creature.

Benjie accidentally marries a Manananggal, and when surprising her at work, discovers her true self. In shock, he throws Odun noodles that are salty and garlicy right onto her lower half, stopping her from reforming. At some point the sunlight hits her and kills her, leaving only dust and making Benjie a widower.

The Fight
The sun has just set on a beautiful beach off the ocean, a mountain range to the other side. The manananggal splits immediately when the fight starts. The sirens take turns swooping in to attack and claw the manananggal. The sirens begin to tire quickly, being two and a half months pregnant in a three month gestation period. Tiring quickly, the sirens switch up their attack plan, and one swoops to the salt water. Using the saltwater to their advantage, the siren pours water on the manananggal's legs.
Turns out the salt really only stops remerging, doesn't negatively affect the manananggal. This was determined to have no real negative effect as the manananggal rips the sirens to pieces. It grabs two sirens, one with each hand, and smashes them together. Bites another's head off. Rips the baby out of the last one, and goes to toss it at the final siren, but gets to hungry and sucks the blood out of its heart instead. It takes probably like 5 sucks. The final one is killed quickly in a one-on-one battle. The manananggal has the rest of the night to clean the salt off her legs, then heads back to the Philippines.
Winner: Manananggal.
